Winter Light at Lake Josephine

This is one of favorite places to paint. It is a small lagoon in a park alongside the Yellowstone River at Billings, Montana. The brilliant yellow/orange reeds in the winter light so contrast with the blue shadows of the crusted snow. Like Clive Tyler is reported to have said, "You can paint the whole world, or you can select." I like to select and drill down to what is the heart of a scene.
