This painting is the my rendition of the Biblical Scripture taken from Mark 4:35-41. The word in the Greek Language of the New Testament is (ghin'-om-ahee, phonetic spelling) meaning
Definition: to come into being, to happen, to become
Usage: I come into being, am born, become, come about, happen.
Verse 35 says when even was come...
It gives the reader and now the viewer, the impression of a change that is taking place while the disciples and Jesus are sailing across Lake Galilee at this appointed time of evening.
The painting consists of only dry pastel on 22"x30" Canson Mi-Teintes Touch light blue paper. The base on the paper is Richeson Handrolled blocks in areas and layering up from there with multiple combinations of dry pastel providers with the smaller finishing details with multiple pastel pencils from various producers. To preserved the painting I used Krylon spray as a fixitive.
This is only the 3rd painting I've ever done and only the second pastel I have done. I took oil lessons for one month when I was 14 but have had no other formal training and did not attempt to paint or draw until last year. I'm 54 years old and have a tremendous passion for pastel and biblical scenes.
Thanks so much for your consideration and time in viewing my work. I would point out as well that I used no single image to render this painting. The figures are all original as well as the sky, landscape, and water. The only reference I used was the idea of the boat from an image I found online but did not copy it, and the country side of Lake Galilee which I looked at from images online.
