Working en plein air at the Natural Science Museum Building directly across from the Sam Houston Memorial, I was entranced by the light as it played across the stunning sculpture created by Enrico Cerracchio in 1925. The teeming city of Houston rose behind the historic sculpture as a wonderful juxtaposition to the historic traditions that the monument stands to immortalize.
