The Upper Suwannee at Big Shoals

The mysterious Suwannee River originates in the Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia, and I have a small cabin in North Florida near Big Shoals Park and the upper Suwannee. This painting was meant to capture the gentle turmoil in the river at the shoals, as well as the wild river margins on both sides. The vantage point is the high bank on the side from Big Shoals State Park. Soft pastels are challenging but rewarding when rendering the character of water.
