Approaching the Badlands

I began with a reference photo and after sketching in the basics I hid the photo. This work is all soft pastel done on black Uart paper. I wanted to achieve a predawn light on a blustery Alberta morning using loose strokes to exemplify the ruggedness of the Canadian landscape.
