Sunshine in a vase

I was enchanted by the fiery beauty of these roses. I worked quickly in the beginning to capture the seductive quality of young rose buds, adding detail later while being careful to preserve the spontaneity of those initial strokes. I did the initial layout in Nu Pastels, working with a combination of Rembrandt, Sennelier, and Schminke in subsequent layers.
