The Final Approach

Pastel on velour paper. I was so fortunate to meet this handsome owl at Dalhousie Castle in Edinburgh, Scotland. We were there for our 20th anniversary, and we attended a three-hour raptor experience where I got to hold this magnificent fellow and have him fly to me and land on my hand. He had a 6-foot wingspan and was so amazing! The gorgeous fir trees in the woods behind him provided a perfect lush background for the intricate design of his feathers and his luminous orange eyes. An unforgettable, elegant creature!
