Glacier

Glacier is a studio painting from a cell phone photo taken while hiking at Perito Moreno Glacier in Patagonia. I started with a Gamboge watercolor underpainting and a vine charcoal sketch on mounted Wallis Belgian Mist, and finished by layering with nearly all the blue pastels I own. I planned the painting as I walked one December afternoon in Argentina, when I noticed that the blues I saw in the glacier exactly matched many of the blues I remembered from my pastel box at home.
