Rose of Sharon

I was inspired to capture in pastel the gorgeous purple/blue of the Rose of Sharon that bloom every year in my backyard. After taking a few reference photos, I loosely sketched my composition in vine charcoal. Following my sketch, I blocked in color over the entire sheet of Art Spectrum Colourfix paper with the harder Nupastels and completed the painting with soft Sennelier and Diane Townsend pastels.
