Renée at Five

This is a portrait of my daughter Renée. My children tend to be my favorite subjects to paint; I love painting portraits and they are always available to sit for reference photos for me! I prefer the rough surface of Art Spectrum Colourfix paper. It grips the pastel pigment and allows me to get away with little to no fixative spray, which I find tends to dull my colors. After an initial sketch in vine charcoal, I proceeded with Nupastels to block in color, followed by soft Diane Townsend and Sennelier pastels.
