Rainbirds

This painting is based on a cheerful scene I encountered one sunny day in March.  Moss is everywhere in western Oregon that time of year and the crocus were a welcome reminder that spring was approaching. I created this painting entirely with pastel. The underpainting was loosely rendered to establish the large shapes and tonal values. I enjoyed rendering the background in somewhat of an abstract design.
